  • Casino Night (Smithville). The Smithville Recreation Center is transformed into a Vegas-type atmosphere and chips are redeemed for chances at winning fun prizes. Held on fourth Saturday.
  • Watermelon Festival (McDade). Long-time tradition that features food, parade, street dance and seed-spitting contest.

(It is held the first Saturday in December in conjunction with Holiday by the Tracks.) Meet artists, enjoy live music, refreshments and experience historic downtown Elgin.
  • Chile Pepper Fiesta (Elgin). Celebration begins at Veterans’ Memorial Park. Enjoy food, drink, Mariachi Band, D.J.s, street dancing, Ballet Folklorico, and the crowning of the “Miss 16 September.”

October

  • Market Days (Elgin). First Saturday monthly, Feb to Nov, held at Elgin Memorial Park, located on Main Street just off of Hwy 95 North. Crafts and artwork.
  • Cajun Fest (Smithville). Celebration at Riverbend Park features Cajun food, music, dancing.
  • Annual Sausage Stampede (Elgin). Held the second Saturday in Oct. Includes a 5K run/walk and a 1K kid’s run/walk, through historic district of Elgin. Fundraiser for the Cattlemen for Cancer Research Patient Assistance Fund.
  • Oktoberfest (Bastrop and Elgin). The second annual event at historic Camp Swift kicks off with a “Volksmarch.” Continues with entertainment, food and military historical learning with aircraft and vehicle displays.
  • Hogeye Festival (Elgin). Celebrating sausage and all things porcine in the “Sausage Capital of Texas.” Event takes place in downtown on the fourth Saturday. “Warm Hearts and Hot Guts” are featured themes with the crowning of King Hog or the Sowpreme Queen. The world-famous Sowpremes are featured with other live bands. Variety of arts and crafts.
  • First Saturday in Smithville (Smithville). Hosted by the Lost Pines Art Alliance monthly on the first Saturday. Art show and sale held at First and Main Streets. Art, pottery, clothing, jewelry, stained glass and statues. Demonstrations and children’s art projects.
  • Art Walk (Elgin). Free, self-guided tour of art exhibitions, 6:00 to 9:00 pm, second Saturday monthly, March to Nov. Meet artists, enjoy live music, refreshments.
  • Trick or Treat Trail (Elgin). Sponsored by the Elgin Parks and Recreation Department. Held downtown at Veterans' Memorial Park. Businesses set up to pass out treats and provide activities for the trick or treaters. A popular event complete with a costume contest for the kids.

November

  • 18th annual Festival of Lights and Parade (Smithville). Held on the first Saturday, an entire day of holiday celebration, beginning with an early morning fun run chasing the Gingerbread Man. Smithville was officially certified as holding the Guinness World Record for World’s Largest Gingerbread Man that was assembled on December 2, 2006. Day-long arts and crafts and activities for the kids on Main Street follow. Evening provides a spectacular lighted parade through town with Santa.
  • Holiday By the Tracks (Elgin). The event is held on the first Saturday of December. Live music and entertainment in downtown Elgin, pictures with Santa and artisian showcases in Veterans’ Memorial Park. Includes VFD-lighted Christmas Parade (from Main Street to 11th to Brenham) and live nativity scene.
