Elgin

Visit Elgin, 18 miles from Bastrop, and stroll its beautifully restored downtown and the Elgin Union Depot Museum in the century-old railroad depot. Hogeye, the town’s biggest annual festival, celebrates sausage and all things porcine in October. Nearby McDade celebrates the watermelons that flourish there in July with its Watermelon Festival.

Smithville

Smithville, just 13 miles from Bastrop, has a picturesque, three-block long Main Street lined with colorful historic buildings and antiques shops. At the south end of Main Street, the Jim Long Railraod Park & Museum features a restored depot and train cabooses. Rosanky

In Rosanky, 11 miles from Bastrop, you’ll find the Central Texas Museum of Automotive History, which houses a remarkable collection of 130 vehicles from all eras. And Hibig Park in Rockne (12 miles from Bastrop) is home to an 1860’s log cabin, fully furnished to provide a glimpse of pioneer life.
