Located above the Interpretive Center on the second floor, the library features floor to ceiling bookshelves filled with works by Texas authors, including stories by native Central Texans about the rich culture and history of the area and its role in building the great state of Texas. The library is named for Bastrop native and local historian Kenneth Kesselus. Settle in a comfortable leather chair with a classic or view numerous historical masterpieces and documents.

An exhibit hall features live creatures native to the area, and interactive exhibits allow visitors to get close to some of the area’s indigenous species. The park’s natural science center offers quality science-based educational programs led by trained educators and professional staff. Use a bat detector sonar reading device that picks up high pitched sound waves bats use for echo location. Most bats found in this area are Mexican-free-tailed bats and are seasonal. Identify indigenous plants and animals along the trails. Hikers hone their observation skills and learn how vegetation provides habitats for a variety of organisms. Discover a nocturnal world as you stroll through the hushed wild and listen to the critters active at night. Night goggles are available to share. All ages welcome.
