Nestled among state parks and just 20 miles from downtown Austin, the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa is a gateway to entertaining activities and exciting excursions, from quiet bike rides to loud live music and everything in between.

BASTROP STATE PARK

Bastrop State Park is site of the famous "Lost Pines," an isolated region of loblolly pine and hardwoods. The park offers backpacking, camping, picnicking, canoeing (park rents canoes), swimming (pool), golfing, fishing, wildlife viewing, hiking and interpretive programs. Bring the family and rent a canoe or fish from the banks.

MCKINNEY ROUGHS NATURE PARK

Characteristics of four Texas regions converge to create an unusual blend of natural resources at McKinney Roughs Nature Park. The park’s 1,100 acres include rolling box canyons, wildflower meadows, lazy river bends and a diverse biological population. Visitors can explore 16 miles of trails by foot or horseback or take a guided raft or kayak trip down the river. The park also offers ROPES courses, rock climbing, bird watching, GPS scavenger (geocache) hunts, presentations and storytelling. An exhibit hall features live creatures native to the area, and interactive exhibits allow visitors to get close to some of the area’s indigenous species. The park’s natural science center offers quality science-based educational programs led by trained educators and professional staff. Program topics include animals and insects, plants and minerals, water quality, and interpretive hikes and orienteering.

ROCK CLIMBING AND ZIP LINE

Certified guides at McKinney Roughs offer full and half day rock climbing classes and programs for adults, families, and children. A 40-foot climbing tower gives you an opportunity to experience rock climbing and finish with an exciting run on the zip line. Participants must meet the minimum age of seven.

TEXAS HISTORY MUSEUM

Learn the story of Texas with fascinating interactive exhibits, children's programs, art, artifacts, displays and tours. The IMAX Theatre features a variety of interesting films such as Texas: The Big Picture. A very informative and fun outing for the whole family.

BLANTON MUSEUM OF ART

Austin's newest museum, the Blanton Museum of Art, houses a notable permanent collection of more than 17,000 works and is recognized for its Old Master paintings, modern and contemporary American and Latin American art and an encyclopedic collection of prints and drawings. Located at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at Congress Avenue, the Blanton is the largest university art museum in the country and the third largest art museum in Texas.

WAREHOUSE/SIXTH STREET ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICTS

Austin’s Warehouse District, otherwise referred to as Fourth Street, welcomes diners and bar-goers alike any evening for happy hour or late night reveling. This is a great entertainment district with something for everyone and plenty of choices, whether a stout pint of Guinness at a local pub or specialty cocktails and tapas at an upscale bar.

The seven blocks of Sixth Street between Congress and IH-35 are the heart of Austin’s thriving music scene. Sixth Street is lined with historic buildings that now house bars, live entertainment venues, tattoo parlors, art galleries, casual cafes, upscale restaurants, offices and the elegant Driskill Hotel. Great food is a staple on Sixth Street, and live music of every genre abounds, from jazz, blues and country to rock, hip-hop, beat, progressive, metal and punk. Also make reservations to attend Esther’s Follies, a variety show poking fun at the latest Hollywood gossip and political humor through song, dance and comedy.

SPORTS

Austin is home to numerous minor league teams and well-known collegiate athletics, including the national champion Texas Longhorns football team. Longhorn basketball games also make for an entertaining outing, as does a Round Rock Express baseball game at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Austin Icebats hockey and the Austin Wranglers' arena football games. EXPERIENCE THE OUTDOORS

Enjoy trips to local Bastrop and Buescher State Parks for camping, hiking and other outdoor activities. Lake Travis, approximately an hour from Lost Pines, is a great place to rent jet skis, water-ski, have lunch or just lay on the beach. See the Concierge for details. Visit Volente Beach for family entertainment and relaxation. Town Lake in Austin is a great place to go jogging or walking with friends.

ZILKER PARK AND
BARTON SPRINGS POOL

Zilker Park, one of the most highly protected watershed recharge zones of Austin, features a 68-degree spring-fed pool with swimming and sun bathing areas. Ride the Zilker Zephyr, a small train that goes around the park, feed the ducks, play disc golf, rent a canoe or romp on acres of grass near the Town Lake and its hike and bike trail.

WILDFLOWER CENTER

Visit the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center near Austin and see what the country is talking about. The Center, with its distinctive architecture and stunning gardens, embodies the former first lady’s love of the land and its natural beauty. Stroll among display gardens where hummingbirds and butterflies abound; see a striking rainwater harvesting system; meditate on the beauty of a Hill Country stream; visit Wild Ideas: The Store; and dine at the Wildflower Cafe.

RIVER TUBING

Experience the thrill of tube-floating down the Guadalupe or Comal Rivers. Many outfitters rent specifically designed tubes with a bottom, so you can transport a cooler of drinks and snacks (no glass containers or styrofoam coolers). Most outfitters will drop you and your tube off at a river entry point and then pick you up at the end of a specific route. You can finish your day or hop on another bus to re-live the river.

CYCLING THE LOST PINES REGION

The panoramic landscapes, smooth roads and challenging conditions of the Lost Pines Region and Austin welcome all levels of riders. Visit the Interpretive Center for more information about local routes. The LIVESTRONG Challenge hosted each year by Austin’s Lance Armstrong Foundation features a fundraising cycling even with 10, 40, 70 and 100 mile routes.

Biking of any kind is not permitted at McKinney Roughs Nature Park. Guests of the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort have access to bicycles for sidewalk use only.

TOUR TEXAS WINERIES

A great opportunity to see Texas' unspoiled landscapes and taste the many varieties of wine grown and bottled right here in Texas. Visit Fall Creek at Lake Buchanan, Grape Creek near Fredericksburg, and others between Austin and San Antonio for a Saturday drive. Texas varieties include cabernet, merlot, chardonnay, Riesling, Muscat and pinot noir. Central Texas, with its rich history, is a great place to enjoy wines with diverse cultural influences.

NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY

Our naturalist will guide you through time in this one-hour presentation, featuring stories of Major Robert S. Neighbors and the local Indians, various battles fought in the area and the historical and cultural significance of Native Americans to Texas.

LOST PINES INTERPRETIVE HIKE

A naturalist guide explains the region's rich history, diverse flora and fauna, ecosystems, geography and unique existence of the Lost Pines. Choose a morning or evening hike for different experiences.

NATIVE ANIMALS PRESENTATION

Learn about the many reptiles, birds and mammals of the area, and see some of them for yourself during the session. Your knowledgeable guide will answer questions about habitat and the area.
