THE HORSE WHISPERER

E.B. Fowler, Hyatt Lost Pines' Mascot Concierge, is an amazing asset to our team. Seeing E.B. in action with our animals, is seeing an woman comfortable in her own element. It is clear to all who cross her path that she has a way with animals. Fowler began her career in Colorado, at the age of thirteen when she joined a mounted drill team called the Westernaires. "The horses we rode were saddle broken at the federal prison," she says. "They came to us for finishing, so we never knew if the horse we were riding was a seasoned veteran or one that might decide to buck."

Fowler's journey over the next several years led her to a therapeutic riding stable in Colleyville, Texas, then to the St. Louis Zoo, where she interned with the Equine Comparative Study while attending Southern Illinois University.

Upon obtaining her degree in biology, Fowler returned to Texas and came across an open position at Hyatt Lost Pines for an animal concierge. "When I applied for the position, I did so only hoping to get a call to find out what the job actually was," she explains. "I drove down from Fort Worth to interview and immediately feel in love with the mascot program when I discussed it with Randy and Paula Greenfield." She's been working for Hyatt Lost Pines ever since.

Fowler finds working with equines to be the most rewarding of experiences, because horses display more dynamic emotions than other animals, reminding her to live in the moment and leave her troubles behind. She explains, "The second my hand reaches for the lead rope to start my walk to catch a horse, I  teach myself to simply be."

MASCOT TEAM WELCOMES NEW MEMBERS

Meet King and Lady—the newest members of our Hooves and Horns Resort Mascot team. These majestic and breath-taking dapple-gray Percheron draft horses stand over 18 hands tall and each weigh over a ton.

King is five years old and has darker legs in comparison to his counterpart, Lady. He is described as child-like and playful, with a large appetite for life---and treats! King enjoys horse cookie rewards, when he earns them.

Lady is the more cautious of the two. Her actions are well planned and deliberate. Although she may appear shy, she is the leader and often directs King to his proper place.

These two equine beauties were raised in Amish country and were seldom rewarded with morsels of affirmation. They are enjoying the spoils of being a part of the team!

King and Lady are working hard to familiarize themselves with Hyatt Lost Pines, while learning to lead the red wagon. Soon, they will share “tour operating” duties with Julius and Caesar. Until they are ready to “take the baton” from our veteran draft-horse team, you can find them becoming acclimated to resort life at the Lost Pines Pasture.

In addition to meeting King and Lady, you’ll want to be sure and stop by the Lost Pines Pasture to meet Yogi and BooBoo, two friendly alpacas and Captain and Trooper, two miniature donkeys. They are on site daily and anxiously await your visit.
