Bastrop State Park

Bastrop State Park covers 5,926 total acres approximately 30 miles southeast of Austin in Bastrop County. It is the site of the famous "Lost Pines," an isolated timbered region of loblolly pine and hardwoods. The park provides opportunities for backpacking, camping, picnicking, canoeing (park rents canoes), swimming (pool), golfing, wildlife viewing, hiking, and interpretive programs.

Buescher State Park

Buescher State Park, a 1016.7-acre scenic area, is just north of Smithville in Bastrop County. Activities include non-motorized boating (no ramp/small lake); fishing in a stocked lake; nature study; hiking; interpretive tours (call park or check Calendar of Events) and biking (The scenic, 12-mile-long, winding and hilly paved road between Buescher and Bastrop State parks is ideal for biking but should be used only by experienced cyclists.)

Lost Pines Golf Club

This historic public course is located inside the Bastrop State Park in Bastrop, TX. The 18-hole golf course is appropriately named for the thousands of acres of Loblolly Pines that surround it.

McKinney Roughs Nature Park

McKinney Roughs is a day-use park where visitors can explore close to 18 miles of trails by foot or horseback (bring your own horse) or take part in one of the park’s many community programs. At the Visitors Center, pay your entrance fee and get the latest trail information. Peruse the gift shop and learn about the area's indigenous species through interactive exhibits, and discover why the “river is the reason” for the presence and protection of this natural area.

South Shore Park on Lake Bastrop

South Shore Park, the busier of the two Lake Bastrop parks, offers a variety of outdoor activities. The 900-acre lake contains bass, crappie, perch and catfish. Anglers can drop a line from the park's fishing pier or head out on a boat from the park's ramp. Sailing, skiing and canoeing are other popular activities on Lake Bastrop. South Shore Park now offers on-site canoe rentals. On shore, park guests can enjoy the shaded day-use and swim areas for picnics, an expanded hiking and biking trail, tetherball courts, and a function hall with AC and heat perfect for family reunion and other group events.

Wolfdancer Golf Club at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa

The Wolfdancer Golf Club makes the most of the area’s diverse natural beauty, covering rolling prairie land, a heavily wooded ridgeline and a shaded valley alongside the Colorado River. The name of the club pays tribute to the Tonkawa Indians who once roamed the same lands.

Created by well-known designers Arthur Hills/Steve Forrest and Associates, Wolfdancer has won multiple awards — most recently, the course was named as one of Golfweek magazine’s “Top 100 Resort Courses for 2009.” The 7,205-yard, 18-hole, par-72 layout combines strategy and swagger to challenge the most avid golfer. Wolfdancer is open to the public.
